The Alaska Railroad is an excellent way to experience
the beauty of the "Railbelt" area (Alaska Railroad Route Map) and is an Alaska adventure in and of itself. The main route runs 500 miles through Southcentral Alaska, providings stunning
vistas and amazing wildlife views. One of the unique offerings of the Alaska Railroad is the student tour guide program. Since 1980, the Alaska Railroad has partnered with the Anchorage and Fairbanks school districts to train student tour guides. Each year high school students are selected to participate in a 10 to 11 week high school elective course that teaches customer service skills, public speaking, CPR, First Aid, and Alaska history, geography, economics, current issues and biology. These well trained young people, then become your guides to their home -- Alaska. They'll make sure you don't miss out on any historical or scenic points of interest. |
The GoldStar Experience: The Alaska Railroad is now offering luxury Gold Star service in custom built rail cars on the Denali Star route, and has announced plans to extend this service to the Coastal Classic route in 2008. If you would like to experience Alaska, while riding in the lap of luxury, Gold Star service is for you. Alaska Railroad Routes The Alaska Railroad operates three route, serving two National Parks -- Kenai Fjords National Park and Denali National Park. Whether you choose regular or Gold Star service, it is an elegant and comfortable to travel or transfer from your cruise ship |
